  Further to R&D activities carried out by Sebit Company, which is one of Turk Telekom subsidiaries, internet version of Vitamin software was launched in September 2008 at first on TTNET and later on KocNET and Dogan.

  Telekom, in respective order, have begun to provide Vitamin service to their subscribers. Vitamin is a education support tool that was developed in full alignment with the curriculum of the National Education Ministry for use over the internet and features online Mathematics, Science and Technology, Turkish and Social Sciences lectures. It attracts 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade student’s attention to lectures while facilitating the lives of students and teachers. By virtue of the memorandum of understanding that was signed by and between Turk Telekom and Ministry of National Education, Vitamin is offered to all schools and teachers free of charge. In the scope of this donation, students from schools and teachers from anywhere can access and use Vitamin. Number of Vitamin users has exceeded 1,000,000 as of December 2009. This figure inclused approximately 200,000 private subscribers connecting over ISP connection and 150,000 teachers and the rest are free users connecting from schools.

  Sebit pursued activities both in Turkey for developing Vitamin and abroad for localization of its products in 2009. Portion targeting high school level of their USA product AdaptiveCurriculum was completed and launched and Vitamin Lise (Vitamin High School) product was completed and launched for use by subscribers in following October in Turkey. “Personal learning paths” were utilized as a result of R&D activities in the high school product and this way mentoring, teaching, and explaining guide feature was engaged for teaching subjects and concepts that “trouble students most”.

  In addition, measuring and assessing features of Vitamin were increased in 2009 and as result of this live SBS trial exams were prepared and implemented for a term of 7 weeks. Students had the opportunity to see where they are standing in comparison to their friends and other students who had taken the tests in these tests that are taken by all students concurrently. Moreover, students are able to see what their deficiencies are during test assessment and access to appropriate Vitamin content to eliminate those deficiencies.

  Another R&D activity was the provision of VOIP voice service to Telekom subscribers from within the Vitamin directly by incorporating a SIP client in Vitamin product as a result of the cooperation with Argela, also one of Group Companies. These activities launched on voice carriage shall be completed and opened for use by subscribers in 2009. Following voice carriage features, messaging (IM), video and virtual class capabilities will also be incorporated.

  International localization activities were also continued in 2009 and operations were launched for development of an Arabic product that conforms to Arabic curriculum for Saudi Telecom Company (STC) in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, Spanish adaptation activities were continued with the cooperation of University of Monterey in Mexico. Discussions with organizations and companies in foreign countries are continued for localization of Vitamin and AC products in those countries.

  AdaptiveCurriculum, our product in the USA, was awarded CodiE award in 2009 as well in "best online education solution" category. In addition, Vitamin product was awarded Best Content Services Award in World Communication Awards 2009.

  Research and development projects for addition of real time communication, chat and video features to Vitamin, for meeting personal education requirement by use of personalized learning paths, and multi-mouse projects enabling all students in a classroom setting to study interactively together are continued.

• Innova

  

  INNOVA Bilisim Cozumleri (Innova IT Solutions), of TT Group Companies, continues operations in the field of providing platform-independent solutions for telecommunications, finance, manufacturing, public sector and services sector with their R&D activities. Turk Telekom has performed short and long term studies on BSS/OSS infrastructures in 2009. Improvements were made and new functionalities were added in line with the innovations emerging in the market in relation to Customer Management, Receivables and Payment Monitoring Management, Local Network Management, Malfunction Monitoring and channel-specific applications (Self Service, Vendor Portal, SME Portal etc.) which serve at Turk Telecom at the moment. As for the long term, organization and definition stages were completed and first release operations were begun for Program 1, whose primary purpose is to ensure the management of efficient and holistic customer-oriented applications (CRM, Revenue Management and Inventory Management) of Turk Telekom and TTNet.

  Mobile health application was developed as a part of mobile solutions that were developed on fully-domestic basis in the same year. With this solution, once ambulance arrives at the incident scene and first aid is provided to the patient, information pertaining to patient’s condition are rapidly communicated to the hospital while the ambulance is on its way to hospital, enabling the hospital personnel to prepare. Ambulance doctor enters information such as age, height, weight, gender as well as condition information such as bleeding, fracture, burnt etc., takes photos of the locality and submits these details to hospital over mobile devices. Information received by hospital of choice appear as work order on the incident monitoring screen located in the hospital, thereby saving time, which is highly critical for human life. This application is also a social responsibility project.

  Likewise, Application and Approval Kiosk for Work Permit (DNRD) was developed by INNOVA Kiesk business line in 2009. Entire process required for obtaining work permit by foreigners willing to work in our country can be managed and official work permit approval forms can be printed using this kiosk. Foreign workers who have approval form can obtain work permits more easily. All process that normally takes 2 days can be completed within 15 minutes using this kiosk.

  Identification Query and Customs Transit System, which is also developed by Kiosk Business Line, has been implemented in QATAR CUSTOMS. These systems were designed for use by citizens in customs and passport offices for the purpose of query and verification of identification. Iris, facial photograph, fingerprint, and signature of the person to be registered can be recorded by the kiosk automatically and all records are then submitted to a central database. Once done, iris verification or fingerprint verification is enough to identify the person. All operations can be monitored by an officer from the monitor located on the side of the kiosk.

  On the other hand, Payment and Sales Kiosk is another Kiosk application that was developed by INNOVA. They have manufactured versions that accept bills and coins and give the change in bills and coins and accept credit cards. Not only was collection of several types of payment, from tax to invoice, possible this way, sales of several items, including but not limited to phone units and tickets, is possible.

  INNOVA Bilisim Cozumleri has developed various products for public sector as well. Among these products, Management Information System and Decision Support System are the most noteworthy. These projects were a part of INNOVA e-Organization activities. Retaining, accessing, and sorting as well as performing other tasks in a secure manner on documents of all kinds is essential for business processes of today’s institutional structures.

  Management information system, where Privatization Administration of the Prime Ministry can perform their tasks on electronic environment, provides data entry, document sharing and messaging functions for interactive cooperation of all units in the Administration and ensures efficiency, performance increase, rapidity, safety and security in Privatization Administration’s operations.

  On the other hand, software designed in the scope of Decision Support System will have central role in ensuring that the data that shall be generated centrally in time in ÖYBS can be shaped in to reports that answer the needs of the Administration thereby enabling monitoring the outputs of privatization projects and taking executive decisions.

  In addition, R&D operations are continued with the cooperation of METU for mobile health platform infrastructure.

  INNOVA also actively participates in European Union projects. Recommendations are submitted to projects supported by CELTIC and ITEA along with partners from EU countries and intense efforts are made to implement these projects. Easy Wireless 2, which aims to provide seamless transition between wireless networks, and COMESI, which aims to diversify multimedia messaging in the field of new generation IP communications, are the two of those projects.

  Easy Wireless2, Hipermed, My Social Sphere, Imponet projects are ongoing multinational projects approved by Eureka Board.

• Argela

  

  Argela, another Turk Telekom subsidiary, has developed Targeted Advertisement Platform (TAP), Femtocell, WebTV and Yakınsama (Convergence) projects.

  Targeted Advertisement Platform (TAP) Project

  This platform is a project that ensures that right advertisement reaches to right person over the most appropriate channel (call, SMS, Web, IPTV, WebTV etc.) and is subject to a pending patent application of us. Product output of our project is being successfully tested and used abroad this year as well.

  Femtocell Project

  Mobile operators have been offering high data transmission rates to their subscribers thanks to 3G services that were launched in our country in 2009 summer. Basic purpose of our Femtocell project is that ARGELA provides a Femtocell device that is fully compatible with 3GPP standards in Turkey and other affiliate countries. Both electronic design of and the software that runs on the device are developed and tested by ARGELA. Femtocell devices, local design fully compliant with 3GPP standards, will help to generalizing 3G services throughout our country in the near future. Special care taken in device design aims to ensure affordable cost of production and we believe that low price will be an important trump in international competition.

  WebTV Project

  Argela carried out WebTV project, which makes viewing live channels over the internet possible, with Microsoft company in 2009. This project also includes pay per view movie features. In this project, Argela offers WebTV clients and Middleware layer, which is the backbone of the platform. Advertisement support and audio/visual call support in the scope of convergence is also planned for this platform.

  Convergence Solutions

  Argela developed SIP clients targeting various types of devices (Symbian, Windows Mobile, Windows, IPhone, Blackberry) in Convergence Gateway Platform in 2009. Cooperation was made with many manufacturers (LG, Samsung, NG Mobile), which enabled group companies to develop various campaigns. Various rich clients help public perception of group companies’ innovative aspects.

  Also in 2009, Voice Call Continuity (VCC) application was developed as a part of convergence solutions. This application enables uninterrupted roaming between WiFi internet and Mobile Networks and uninterrupted transition from one network to another.

• Sobee

  

  Sobee, a Group Company, has established an R&D-oriented organizational structure since the day of its incorporation and has been developing world-class products thanks to its R&D operations. Our unique and innovative products received attention and support of ITU Arı Teknokent and Tübitak -Teydeb. Following is a summary of R&D operations that we have been carrying out recently.

  IKV- Istanbul Kiyamet Vakti (Istanbul Apocalypse)

  With a budget of $1,200,000, this game was completed upon efforts for two and a half years. Istanbul’s old city, which is commonly referred to as historical peninsula, was chosen as gaming place and Eminonu was tête-à-tête and interactively transferred to computer environment in 3D.

  Actor gaming engine was further developed in project process and Turkey's first 3-dimensional community game was launched to market.

  Our project received Tubitak-Teydeb’s support at 60%, which is the upper limit.

  Currently IKV has over 500 thousand members. Scope of this game is expanded throughout the country and we are working on a new add-on. Furthermore, recently the game was opened to TTNET users.

  I Can Football

  With this project that enables users to play 11 to 11 soccer matches in 3D over the internet, our company has been a first not only in Turkey but in the world.

  Dozens of important features of the project include simultaneous play of hundreds of games and tens of thousands of players at servers successfully, ability to record live games, replay of positions during games, and ability to publish and replay important positions and goals recorded by players on game website.

  This project, first version of which was completed within as short time as 24 months and as little a budget as $750,000, was supported by Tübitak – Teydeb as well.

  Negotiations are continued for various language and country broadcasting options for this game that was introduced to gamers with a great and successful launch in November 2009 at Compex exhibition.

  Super Can

  With this game that was developed for Can, Turk Telekom’s child character, Super Can is on the way to becoming Turkey’s first superhero. Promotion video that was released a few weeks ago has received the attention of over 600 thousand viewers.

  Many social and educative gaming projects will be developed around this superhero, which will fight against destruction of forrest in the very first episode.

  Virtual Child Pilot

  We are developing very useful and innovative products using Google Earth infrastructure. Users of all ages will be included in a virtual application and able to pilot a computer-simulated airplane when this project, which was planned for development for THY at initial stage, is completed.

  At initial stage, user will be able to define a route for the flight, view the flight and earth from cockpit, tail or aerial points of view, have information about important places and events on the route during the flight, and adjust flight time and height settings.

  Application will be continuously updated and enriched by addition of features and content; it will receive permanent attention of users with its dynamic structure and is sure to attract new users to website. With this project, for instance, launching interactive visual regional tours and city guides with slogans like “fly, see, and learn” will be very simple.

  This project can also be transformed in to a supporting and exemplary project for Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture. Modeling one of THY’s small airplanes for this purpose and making Istanbul introduction to user on a predefined flight/trip route will be possible. With launch of such an activity, foundation shall be laid for new City Guide projects for Istanbul and other provinces of our country by addition of new routes during 2010.

  This may also be presented to Tübitak-Teydeb as an R&D project for their support.
