ATM

ATM provides high speed and flexible bandwidth.

The ATM system, which is essentially a packet switching system, efficiently uses the band width through the statistical multiplexing method in the trunks between the switches. It is perfectly suitable for sound and video transmission as it also conducts transparent transportation.

  • Combines the Local and Wide Area communication networks in a single type communication network.
  • As the load on the system increases, it can increase its ability to carry that load, that is its performance, and scale it.
  • Allows the realization of Virtual Networks (VLANs).
  • Allows the network to adapt itself according to the quality of the transmitted traffic (data, sound or video) and to provide the most suitable service for the requirements of the related traffic through the guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS).
  • Provides the high speed transmission of sound, image and data traffic through the same network.
  • Allows the network capacity to be distributed equally between the users via the cell based communication method created by the division of the date into equal and small parts.
  • Sends the ATM cells in very different types of cable (fibre optic, copper, etc.) in very different speeds due to its cell based structure.
  • Performs these functions not by special methods monopolized by a certain manufacturing group, but by based on international standards determined through common platforms.

Virtual circuits have CBR and VBR types depending on the traffic type. Let’s have a look at the features of these types;

CBR

It is designed for the applications with a fixed band width. It provides the ideal solution for real time applications. The band width amount is indicated by a single parameter. (PCR - Peak Cell Rate)

VBR

It is designed for variable bit speeds. If the receiver device has a buffer storage large enough, then the fixed bit flow obligation is eliminated.

The ATM service can be provided through both fibre optic cable and copper cable. Through copper cable, up to maximum 2 Mbps circuit can be taken. Fibre and SDH investments should be made when high band width and high speed ATM services are wished to be provided.

Multiple IP and BGP Definition

In case of a demand for the ATM broad band services used in internet connection, multiple IP may be provided. For detailed information about the multiple IP and BGP definition service, please click here.
