Turkey’s outgoing Internet speed upgraded from gigabits to terabits
Türk Telekom upgrades Turkey’s outgoing Internet capacity from its current level of 650 Gbps to 1.2 terabits. This marks a 40-fold increase in the outgoing Internet capacity from 30 gigabits in 2005. The largest share in this upsurge comes from the infrastructure of the Hungary-based Pantel, which joined the Türk Telekom Group last year. With Pantel, which boasts 27,000 kilometers of fiber-optics infrastructure in 16 countries, Türk Telekom transforms Turkey into a communication hub in the region, strengthening its global position in broadband and data.
Türk Telekom unabatedly continues its investments to form a communication bridge between east and the west and to transform Turkey into the new communication hub in the region. With the support of one of Europe’s leading independent wholesale data and capacity providers, Pantel, which joined Türk Telekom Group in 2010, Türk Telekom increases Turkey’s outgoing Internet capacity to 1.2 terabits.
Before this breakthrough, made with a view to boosting the country’s Internet speed, Turkey’s outgoing Internet capacity, which stood at 30 gigabits in 2005, had reached 650 gigabits thanks to the investments that had been made to date. Together with the recent increase, the speed will have reached 1.2 terabits, which marks a 40-fold increase compared to 2005. Thus, doors to the digital world are opened faster as the access capacity further increases. Thanks to the achieved capacity increase, access will be considerably faster from Turkey to many web sites also including popular platforms such as Google, Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter, which are hosted abroad. Furthermore, access standard will have been maintained also during the peak times with busy Internet traffic.
With its 27,000km fiber optics network covering 16 countries, Pantel makes a considerable contribution in transforming Turkey into a voice and data bridge over the land between the Middle East and Europe. Together with Pantel, Türk Telekom also provides the data and broadband traffic that connects the Middle Eastern and Asian markets to Western Europe and America, further improving its global standing.
